The following case studies are three examples of the Foundation’s work in the community.
Neighbors Link Stamford
"They [First County Bank] truly understand and actively support our social mission. There's nothing more valuable than that."
Neighbors Link Stamford strengthens the whole community by helping immigrants to integrate. As a new nonprofit opening a resource center for recent immigrants to the area, Neighbors Link Stamford needed local support from like-minded organizations. They needed volunteers and grant money, but also a bank to set up their 501(c)(3) account. When they turned to First County Bank - they found all three.
Human Services Council
"This past year, ten out of ten mentees graduated high school and went on to college."
First County Bank is making efforts felt in schools all over Norwalk. The Foundation funds the Human Services Council - Norwalk Mentor Program - a powerful force that empowers today's youth. Local professionals volunteer their time teaching, helping, enabling and inspiring. And you can see the results on every child's face.
Kids in Crisis
"They have been great supporters in every sense of the word."
For over ten years, Kids in Crisis, a nonprofit located in Greenwich, has benefited from grants from the First County Bank Foundation. The money received supports their Safe Haven for Kids program - the only program in the state to provide free emergency residential shelter and comprehensive medical, emotional and educational services to children of all ages and their families. Youngsters are protected in a nurturing, home-like setting where they receive the care and support they so desperately need and deserve.
"We work to bridge the gap between isolation and community for individuals and families coping with the challenges of mental illness."
Since 1984, Laurel House has been operating in Stamford and embraces a "recovery" model of care which holds that people with serious mental illness can and do adjust to the impositions of their disabilities. Laurel House serves eight towns in Fairfield County and provides supportive programs and services. Read more...
